I designed and taught a course in African American history and culture for the University of Maryland Global Campus, so I am familiar with at least 75 influential African American authors from poets, to essayists, and fiction writers. I feel comfortable writing and teaching about social justice and history.
My dissertation was about the application of civil rights laws to ameliorate foreign countries\\\' perception of the U.S. as a functioning democracy. I also studied and taught African American history so am familiar with the judicial and legislative processes that have been used to lessen racism in the U.S.
I have over 25 years experience teaching all forms of practical writing. Students learn how to be clear and persuasive writers from rhetoric. All organizations, from hospitals to schools to businesses, require employees who can communicate effectively to a range of audiences.
My undergraduate degree was in French culture, history, and language. I can read French well, but would not say that I am bi-lingual. My interest in other cultures has led me to learn and to teach intercultural communication at the college level.
At the University of Pennsylvania I was a graduate researcher on how communication and political science work together (or not) to educate and influence the public. These were large projects funded by major donors which ended up as books by the lead professors on the projects as well as conferences.
