Because of the Challenger disaster, NASA has decided to include a personal escape launch for each of the space shuttle astronauts. Because space is at a premium, proper anthropometric design is crucial. Also, because of budget restrictions, the design is to be non-adjustable, i.e., the same design has to fit all the present and future astronauts, who are now both males and females.
