Last fall, the college introduced a peer-mentor program in which a sample of n = 75 freshmen was each assigned an upperclassman mentor. To evaluate the success of the program, the administration looked at the number of students who returned to the college to begin their second year. The data showed that 88% of the students in the peer-mentor program returned, compared to 72% for freshmen who were not in the program.
