No matter how you look at it, Dow Chemical had busy years in 2014 and 2015. In 2014, Dow announced that it was planning to sell its subsidiaries Angus Chemical Company, Sodium Borohydride, and AgroFresh. Dow had also recently has completed the sale of a portion of its North America rail car fleet. Additionally, the company was in the process of a planned carveout of its U.S. Gulf Coast chlor-alkali/ chlor-vinyl, global chlorinated organic, and epoxy businesses that would be completed in 2015. Why might a company split off a division? Is there a possibility of reverse synergy?
