I stated earlier that Levene’s test consists of calculating the absolute (or squared) differences between individual observations and their group’s mean, and then running a t test on those differences. Using any computer software it is simple to calculate those absolute and squared differences and then to run a t test on them. Calculate both and determine which approach SPSS is using in the example. (Hint: F 5 t 2 here, and the F value that SPSS actually calculated was 0.391148, to 6 decimal places.)
