(Internet Research) Obtain copies of the General Fund and Special Revenue Funds financial statements from a state or local government, the Internet, your professor, a library, or elsewhere.

a. Study the General Fund financial statements and compare them with those discussed and Required illustrated in this chapter, noting the following: 1. Similarities. 2. Differences. 3. Other matters that come to your attention, such as formats and accounts not discussed in the text.

b. Study the Special Revenue Fund financial statements, noting the following: 1. The nature and purpose of each fund. 2. The similarities, differences, and other matters, as in requirement (a).

c. Prepare a brief report on requirements

(a) and (b).

d. If the General Fund fund balance classifications in the government's report differ from those discussed in the chapter, determine-as best possible using information in the statements and the notes-how fund balance should be reported using the GASB Statement 54 fund balance classifications discussed in the chapter.
