A balance on the receivables’ control account is £52,756, but the totals of balances from the individual receivables’ accounts is £51,706.

The following issues discovered later may account for this discrepancy:

1. Returns inwards of £450 were only entered in the individual customer accounts.

2. A debit balance on a customer’s account of £95 was included in the total of individual balances as a credit balance (but was entered into the control account correctly).

3. Discounts allowed of £230 were only entered in the individual customer accounts.

4. A sales invoice for £420 was posted to the customer’s account as £240.
