(a) A PC system used by an accountant to prepare tax returns and other types of financial reports. The system has a color monitor, a laser printer, two external disk drives, and a \(600-\mathrm{Mb}\) internal hard drive.

(b) A minicomputer system used by a medium-sized consumer appliance retail store. The unit has two disk drive units, one tape drive unit, and one high-speed line printer. In addition to the operator's console video terminal, the minicomputer is attached via communication lines to four terminals in the retail area for data entry and one terminal in the receiving room.

(c) A large mainframe system at the central office of a manufacturing firm. The system has two CPUs, 16 disk drive units, eight tape units, three highspeed line printers, one page printer, and a COM unit. In addition to the operator's console video terminal, the computer is attached via communication lines to 48 data entry terminals in the central office and 4 minicomputer systems located in different manufacturing plants. A front-end processor is used for communications control at the central office. Each of the distributed minicomputer systems has two disk drives, a high-speed line printer, and four to eight video terminals for data entry.
