The purpose of a study by Dubuis et al. (A-23) was to determine whether neuropsychological deficit of children with the severe form of congenital hypothyroidism can be avoided by earlier onset of therapy and higher doses of levothyroxine. Subjects consisted of 10 infants (ages 3 to 24 days) with severe and 35 infants (ages 2 to 10 days) with moderate congenital hypothyroidism. Among the data collected were the following measurements on plasma T4 (nmol/L) levels at screening:
