To increase understanding of HIV-infection risk among patients with severe mental illness, Horwath et al. (A-32) conducted a study to identify predictors of injection drug use among patients who did not have a primary substance use disorder. Of 192 patients recruited from inpatient and outpatient public psychiatric facilities, 123 were males. Twenty-nine of the males and nine of the females were found to have a history of illicit-drug injection.
