Teamwork. Bring a newspaper,magazine, or book to class.

a. Working in a group of four, have one member read aloud for five minutes while the other three members listen—one using cautious listening, one skimming, and one scanning.

Compare the results of the three listening efforts and report your results to the class.

b. Repeat the exercise using different material. Have a fifth person make noise or cause some other distraction. Discuss how the distraction affected each person’s ability to listen to the message. (Objectives 3 and 4)
