1. Hindrances to Interpersonal Communication in an International Setting. It does not take much effort to recognize that communication problems occur when speaking with someone who is highly conversant in your own language. Problems are compounded when you add another variable:

someone who uses English as a second language. Even though you may not have visited a foreign country (or if you have, so much the better), simply make a list of hindrances that you think might occur when holding a 1:1 conversation with a person using English as a second language. Chapter 3 should give you a start on compiling your own list.
