The Wynn Oil Company, which conducted an enormous amount of business with Latin American companies, argued that being male was a bona fide occupational qualification (BFOQ) for the position of sales executive. Wynn contended that because of certain Latin American customs, the hiring of a female sales executive would have a serious detrimental effect on the company’s business.
