agreed to pay $634.5 million in penalties to resolve a false marketing charge growing out of the company’s sale of OxyContin. Part of the sentence required the former executives to serve 400 hours each of community service in drug treatment programs. News outlets reported that the penalty, the largest ever paid by a drug company, represented nearly 90 percent of the profits Purdue Pharma initially made from the sale of OxyContin.
