Table 9.10 refers to a sample of juveniles convicted of a felony in Florida in 1987. Matched pairs were formed using criteria such as age and the number of prior offenses. For each pair, one subject was handled in the juvenile court and the other was transferred to the adult court. The response of interest was whether the juvenile was rearrested by the end of 1988.

a. Test the hypothesis that the true proportions rearrested were identical for the adult and juvenile court assignments. Use a two-sided alternative.

b. Find a 90% confidence interval for the difference between the true propor- tions of rearrest for the adult and juvenile court assignments. Interpret.
