Geckos are known for their ability to climb smooth vertical walls or windows. Recent research has shown that this unusual trait results from dispersion forces between the surface and the tips of tiny hairlike setae in the Gecko’s feet. Many materials science and engineering groups are working to develop tapes and other adhesives designed to mimic this behavior.
