Use the economics of fertility choices analyzed in Chapter 3 to evaluate both arguments. Draw a two-dimensional diagram with the number of children on the horizontal axis and consumption on the vertical axis. Draw a budget line, indifference curves, and optimal fertility choice. Show how Young's argument affects fertility choices in this diagram. Do the same exercise for Kalamli-Ozcan's argument. Discuss which of the arguments seems more plausible and why.
