• Shawn was thrilled to be finally opening his own medical practice. Before he opened for business, he asked a lot of area doctors for things that they had found to be problematic when they first opened their practices. Shawn’s goal was to see if he couldn’t minimize some of the risks they had faced. 
  1. The entire village where Shawn practiced was located in a high fire risk zone.
  2. “Receptionists and others working in the offices have been known to divulge confidential details about patient’s medical conditions,” cautioned Dr. Shilling.
  3. One doctor had a number of different people responsible for taking in cash payments, billing insurance companies and paying expenses and nothing seemed to balance at the end of the month.
  4. Dr. Beckemeyer noted. “Sick people can be messy people and I always had freshly mopped floors. Unfortunately, these are slippery and a potential danger.”
  5. One doctor had been investigated for insurance fraud, something some of his employees had been doing without his knowledge.
  6. Several of the pharmaceutical drugs he would be carrying had a relatively high street value. Dr. Jones noted that these had a way of turning up missing at inventory time.
