Released in December 2009 by Rovio Entertainment Corporation, Angry Birds is a game that requires the user to project belligerent cannonball-shaped birds at catatonic green pigs living in fragile houses on an island in the Pacific, who have stolen the birds’ eggs. Through use of a slingshot, the goal is to collapse the glass and wood houses on the pigs’ sometimes helmeted heads, in an effort to bring about their demise (Mauro, 2011). On the surface this sounds like an absurd game that requires little strategy and technique. However, despite, or perhaps because of, this, it has gone on to enjoy the biggest mobile application success the world has seen so far (Holthe Eriken and Abdymomunov, 2011).
