A. In 2015, the Canadian province of British Columbia enacted regulations applicable to the sale of wine. Only wine produced in British Columbia could be sold on grocery store shelves. Wine produced outside British Columbia could also be sold, but only in a “store within a store” section of the grocery store. The United States requested a dispute resolution at the WTO. What law do you think the United States claimed was violated? How do you think the dispute will be resolved and why?

B. In 2017, the United States requested a dispute resolution at the WTO claiming that for the past several years, Chinese producers of primary aluminum had been receiving subsidies in the form of low-interest loans from banks that are agencies or entities of the Chinese government. What law do you think the US claimed was violated? In addition to these allegations, what else will the United States need to prove?

C. In 2017, Brazil requested a dispute resolution at the WTO against Canada. In its request, Brazil claimed that Bombardier, Inc., a commercial aircraft manufacturer, received financial support from federal, provincial, and local levels. Specifically, Brazil claimed that: federal government agencies provided millions of dollars of financing and funding to Bombardier for commercial aircraft design, research, and development;
. a Québécoise municipality provided tax incentives, including the exemption of property taxes for Bombardier’s production facility, as well as a ten-year tax credit for all aircraft manufacturing companies established at the local airport;
. Canada agreed to provide funding Bombardier’s suppliers;
. Quebec provided US$1 billion to Bombardier “for cash flow purposes of the C-Series program in exchange for a 49.5 percent share in a newly-created entity to which Bombardier will transfer the assets, liabilities, and obligations of its C Series program”
