Dee needed enough knowledge to explain to the IT department that she wasn't doing anything other than using MySQL to support Movable Type. She needed to point out that there are hundreds of Movable Type installations that successfully run MySQL. The MySQL installation would pose no burden on the IT department. Furthermore, if there were problems, only Dee's blog would be affected.
