Most classes have students who are at different levels of thinking. Some students will feel most comfortable when the answer is concrete. Others will have advanced to understand that thinking occurs within a particular context. I like to address this issue head on. Often students with higher cognitive skills can help those with lessdeveloped skills. This exercise works well in groups—especially if the students have varying ages and life experiences. William Perry wrote several articles on this topic that had a profound impact on my teaching.!
