Team Project: What Does a CPA Do? Form teams as assigned by your instructor. Select a practicing CPA, CPA firm, or accounting firm in your area. Contact the individual or firm and ask for an appointment, explaining that you wish to discuss a school assignment. When keeping your appointment, make sure that you are on time, have a professional appearance (including professional attire), and maintain a professional demeanor. Prepare questions in advance, but at a minimum determine the following from the person with whom you meet:

a. What form of business organization is used? If other than a sole proprietorship, how many partners or owners are there? How many professional staff are there? How many offices are there?

What is the main type of work (e.g., tax, audits)?

What types of clients does the firm have?

Is there more work at a particular time of year? Why?

What type of education or training does the person with whom you are meeting have? What types of skills are particularly important?
