In many countries, alcohol is legally permitted for adults. Moderate, responsible drinking might be acceptable but heavy drinking causes health and social problems. One way to tackle this is to increase the price of alcohol by having a minimum retail price per unit of alcohol in order to reduce the amount individuals can consume.
