A résumé provides a summary of your skills, abilities, and achievements. It also may include a description of the type of job you want. An effective résumé clearly communicates your career objectives, your experience and qualifications, and shows that you have given serious thought to your career.

Assignment

1. Prepare a résumé for a job that you want using the information in Online-Only Chapter 17 (see text website).

a. Determine your skills and decide which are important for this particular job.

b. Decide which format—chronological or functional—

will be most effective in presenting your skills and experience.

c. Keep the résumé to one page, if possible (no more than two pages). Note that portfolio items may be attached for certain jobs, such as artwork.

2. Have several people review the résumé for accuracy.

3. Ask your instructor to comment on your résumé.
