If the quantity caught equals the sustainable catch, at any point on the SCC, the fish stock remains constant and is available for future generations of fishers in the same quantity that is available today. But if the quantity caught exceeds the sustainable catch, at a point such as B, the fish stock shrinks and, unchecked, eventually falls to zero.
