You saw earlier (here ) that in the United States, the lowest-paid 20 percent of the population receives 3 percent of total income and the highest-paid 20 percent receives 50 percent of total income. The personal distribution of income in the world economy is much more unequal.

According to World Bank data, the lowest-paid 20 percent of the world’s population receives 2 percent of world income and the highest-paid 20 percent receives about 70 percent of world income.


