Geographical scope. Labour unions with head offices in other countries (most often the United States) that charter branches in both Canada and one or more countries are known as international unions. Labour unions that charter branches in Canada only and have their head office in this country are known as national unions. A small number of employees belong to labour unions that are purely local in geographical scope. LO.1
