12. “Foreigner” Labels. Meet in small groups with other class members and generate a list of labels used to refer to people from other countries who come to the United States—for example, “immigrants” and “aliens.” For each label, identify a general connotation (positive, negative, mixed).

Discuss how connotations of these words may infl uence our perceptions of people from other countries. Would it make a difference if we referred to them as “guests” or “visitors”?
