The purposive (directed) sample has its place; but:

a. Do not use it in conjunction with random number tables.

b. Do not use it in multistage sampling.

c. Use it only to draw conclusions about the population.

d. Do not draw conclusions about the entire population from it.

e. Use it solely in cases involving suspected defalcations.
