AB Hi-Fi HR and payroll cycle AB Hi-Fi is a multi-store retail business that sells products such as DVDs, CDs, mp3 players, game consoles and TVs. In addition to retail stores, AB Hi-Fi also sells music, games and DVDs via its website. AB Hi-Fi manufactures all its personalised packaging and marketing materials in-house as it believes this gives greater product flexibility and creates cost saving opportunities. The narrative of the HR management and payroll cycle for AB Hi-Fi follows. Process 1.0 Maintain personnel records Each area of AB Hi-Fi hires its own employees. These employees are generally full- time (F/T), contracted (C/T) or casual staff. Job advertisements for casual employees in JB Hi-Fi's production, warehouse and shipping areas are first posted in the local newspapers and on websites. Causal employees perform a range of duties including packing, ensuring that the production line flows smoothly, assembling different parts for shipment, and ensuring the required adjustments are made to the production line so that all personalised packaging and marketing materials are available in line with the demand for goods. Potential employees apply for the job via the manager of the department that they are intending to work for (i.e. production manager, warehouse manager or shipping manager). The department manager of the department personally interviews each potential applicant and handpicks the successful candidate. The employee is generally paid an hourly rate based on their qualifications and experience. The department manager advises the HR clerk the starting pay rate and any future adjustments.
