Go to the Sampling Words applet and load some penny data by clicking the Pennies radio button

Question:

Go to the Sampling Words applet and load some penny data by clicking the Pennies radio button located just to the right of the data window. This dataset contains the last two digits of the year on 1,000 pennies collected in 1999, and also the age of the penny in 1999. Click on the Show Sampling Options box and draw 1,000 samples of size 20 and the applet will develop a distribution of the means of your 1,000 samples.

a. What is the mean of your distribution of 1,000 sample means? What did you expect it would be?

b. What is the standard deviation of your distribution of 1,000 sample means? What did you expect it would be?

c. Is your distribution of sample means skewed one way or the other? If so, which direction is it skewed?

d. Now have the applet draw 1,000 samples of size 50 (you can fix the axis scaling first if you prefer) from the population of pennies and answer parts (a), (b), and (c) again using the new distribution of sample means.
