In 2019, movie director Woody Allen sued Amazon for wrongfully terminating their contract for the production and distribution of four films. Production on one of the films, A Rainy Day in New York, had finished in 2017. Allen accused Amazon of terminating the contract after the #MeToo movement, which drew attention to sexual harassment, had renewed media attention into past accusations that he molested his daughter, of which Amazon was aware before entering into the contract. Amazon responded that the termination of the contract was due to comments Allen allegedly made that were sympathetic to movie director Harvey Weinstein, as well as comments about Weinstein’s accusers. Amazon asserted that the remarks undermined the value of the agreement and hurt the promotion of Allen’s films. The lawsuit settled.
