Many of the theories account for the fact that individuals possess different needs and may not respond uniformly to attempts to alter the work. For instance, although some may find job variety and task significance rewarding and self-motivating, others may find such job characteristics detrimental to personal and professional well-being. Do supervisors and administrators have a responsibility to identify and fulfill individual needs, or is it enough to treat employees uniformly? If the former, how should those needs be identified?
