Two nurses have agreed to collect data on a QI project to decrease the number of patients who cancel their clinic appointments at two different surgical clinics. These patients are called clinic no-shows. The nurse manager over both clinics asks the two nurses to assure interrater reliability. Not being familiar with the concept of interrater reliability, the nurses look to the literature and discover that this term refers to ensuring those collecting data are following the same data collection procedures. Those collecting the data will do so at the same time and same location and compare their findings. The nurse manager requests a written plan to assure IRR between both nurses at the two clinics.
