Imagine that you are a member of an interprofessional team in a rural county in your state.
The team is looking into improving the health status of the community. The community has a high rate of cancer (particularly breast and lung); accidents (farm related); alcohol abuse, particularly among teens; and obesity (adults, but with increasing weight gain in children). The interprofessional team is composed of two registered nurses (one who works in the local hospital, and you, the only school nurse in the area), one physician in private practice, the local hospital administrator, the mayor of the largest town in the area, a psychologist in practice, and a clergyman.
