Critically evaluate the extent to which each of these statements:

■ Gives a clear indication of the main purpose and general direction of the organisation;

■ Is written in clear, specific, substantial and meaningful language; and

■ Appears likely to inspire members of the organisation.

In the case of your own organisation, comment critically with supporting examples on the perceived value of the mission statement and the extent to which the wording is put into practice at the operational level. Explain what changes, if any, you would make to the mission statement. What conclusions do you draw from this assignment?
