SMALL GROUP PROJECT AND DISCUSSION Eco-labels in hospitality industry: the best option?

Sustainable development calls for a wide range of incentives and sound legislation.

Voluntary self-regulation initiatives are now becoming a popular force for sustainability-related improvements in the hospitality industry. Eco-labels are voluntary initiatives whereby sustainability is based on voluntary agreements and voluntary standards.

e |n small groups, research and define the following eco-labels and provide for each eco-label an industry example (at best from the hospitality industry).

e Each group should then discuss whether the hospitality industry should seek to obtain this particular eco-label or not. Findings will be presented to the class:

— Carbon Neutral Certification Certified Green Restaurant Climate Neutral label The Green Key Green Globe Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED)
