a. Variable costs change in total with volume but are fixed per unit.

b. Fixed costs do not change in total with volume but vary per unit.

c. Semivariable or mixed costs combine variable and fixed costs.

d. Step-pattern costs are fixed over a small range but vary over a wide range of activities.
