In nine states, the consumption of marijuana is permitted for recreational use in addition to medical use. If a company in one of these nine states has a zero-tolerance drug policy, should it make accommodations for recreational users of the drug? It is likely that more employees in one of those nine states use marijuana for recreational use than for medical reasons. A recent survey by Yahoo News/ Marist reported that 55 million Americans used marijuana in the past year and 35 million used it in the past month. This is a larger group than active tobacco users. Work together with a group of four or five students, and decide whether a company located in a state that permits recreational marijuana use should adjust its zero-tolerance drug policy to accommodate recreational marijuana users or leave the zero-tolerance policy intact. What are the advantages and disadvantages of leaving the zero-tolerance policy intact or making accommodations to recreational drug users?
