Question:
4 Write a management summary of the major findings of this study. James Burnett was head of Southwest University (SU) food services. SU had a student population of 25,000 and a faculty of 1800. In the fall of 1984, SU food service had opened a 24-hour cafeteria on central campus for SU students and faculty. "Bernie's" offered breakfast from 4:30 AM until noon, and complete hot meals between 10:00 AM and 10:00 PM. It also served deli sandwiches, pizza, and burgers around the clock. The food was high quality (better than the typical dormitory farel, yet priced lower than comparable food at other restaurants. Students who had meal plans through their dor- mitories could get, as compensation for missed meals, deductions from their bills when they ate at Bernie's. In addition to food, Bernie's carried morning newspapers and the "essential" school supplies-pens, pencils, paper, and blue books. One year after the opening of Bernie's, the president of Southwest commissioned Burnett to conduct a study to find out students opinions about the new 24-hour cafeteria. The university was in dire need of office space, and if students weren't satisfied with Bernie's, the president was going to have it remodeled into offices. The president was most particularly interested in: (1) student awareness of Bernie's, (2) student use of the 24-hour cafeteria, and (3) overall student satisfaction with Bernie's. Since Burnett was fairly certain that the study results would favor keeping Bernie's, he decided to include questions in the survey which would help him to improve the existing services. Burnett wanted to know what specific things the students liked and disliked about Bernie's, and what they felt could be added or improved upon.
