The BBC investigation into graphology was larger than the class study we looked at in Exercise 32.10. In the BBC study, professional graphologists classified a total of 680 samples of handwriting, each with a 50% chance of correct classification by guesswork alone. They classified 440 of the samples correctly.

a. Follow the steps laid out in Exercise 32.10 to test evidence for a systematic ability beyond guesswork among the professional graphologists. Give an interpretation of your statistical findings.

b. Comment on your findings in terms of the practical context.

Would you recommend to an employer that they should hire a graphologist to screen job applicants? Explain your response.

At this point we should note that graphologists don’t come cheap.
