3. Does an improved standard of living necessarily mean more consumption? Is it possible to envision a future in which consumption of many goods and natural resources would decline?

If this happened, would it mean an end to economic growth? How might perception of these questions differ, for example, for a citizen of the United States and a citizen of India?
