Historically, student advising in the College of Business at Tech was done by faculty in the individual departments that housed a student€™s major. However, the College received poor advising ratings on national student surveys that rank business schools, which caused the College to have a low ranking. In order to remedy this problem the College centralized its advising activity in the Dean€™s office using full-time, trained advisors. After a transition period the advising offi ce sampled 50 students every week during a semester using a brief in-class survey in classes selected randomly. Any survey that indicated an advising problem was considered one defect. The semester-long survey resulted in 68 total defects.
