The proposed TransCanada Pipelines Keystone XL will have a diameter of 36 inches and the crude oil

Question:

The proposed TransCanada Pipelines Keystone XL will have a diameter of 36 inches and the crude oil in it will have a velocity of 6.3 km/h (based on the number and power of the pump stations planned). It is claimed that it will be able to transport 830,000 barrels of oil per day. You are wondering if this is right. Calculate the flow rate or capacity of the pipeline (in barrels per day) using:

a. Geometry. First, calculate how many barrels fit in a 6.3 km long pipe, where volume of a pipe with diameter d and length Lis (d/2)2nL. Note: 18 inches=0.4572 metre; 1 cubic metre= 8.3864 barrels.
