Identify someone nearby who is currently working in an occupation and role that interests you. Make an appointment and visit with that individual.

During your visit, ask the person (1) how they prepared for the job, and the background that brought them to this point; (2) what advice they might have to help you prepare for a similar role; (3) if they would be willing to mentor you, or at least let you come back for guidance occasionally, as you progress in your career.
