What type of negotiation style did Oakville Health System use in this case?

At the end of the month, ConnectedCare Insurance will not be accepted at Oakville Health System, the largest health system in its State, after the two entities failed to reach an agreement on reimbursement rates. Oakville Health System is the only Level 1 Trauma center in hundreds of miles, and receives complex cases from a wide referral area. It is estimated that this change will affect approximately 30,000 policyholders in the Health System’s referral area.
“ConnectedCare Insurance is asking for rates that are so low, it impossible to keep our doors open. They have forced us into this position,” said Oakville Health System CEO Sanjeet Mulpur.
“We haven’t had these kinds of problems with any other insurer, and they have a precedent of trying to strong-arm health systems around the country to pay absurdly low rates.”
