Identify a conflict you have been involved with (usually recent ones work better) and try to identify all of the expectations that you and the others had (or may have had) about what should be done, each other’s identities, and what was most important. Examine these expectations and see how they contributed to the conflict and what could be done to deal with or change or suspend them to more productively manage the conflict. Consider the many ideas for managing conflict noted in this chapter. Did you use any of them? Which ones might you want to try to use in the future?
