While Slater’s case is clearly not one of hidden resistance as in Murphy’s (1998) study, how might we understand this as a form of resistance to the ideological structuring of flight attendant work? In other words, how might we understand this as not merely about Slater’s psychological state or his personal burnout but about the many forces that positioned him as having relatively little agency in a situation such as this?
