CHECKLIST 18.1 Marriage, Money, and Financial Personalities When talking with your future part- ner, ask these questions: How did your family handle money? Did they have debt problems? Did they use credit cards? How much income is enough? How do you feel about both spouses working after you have children? How much do you earn? Do you have other sources of income? What do you own? How do you feel about debt? Do you have debt? Do you have other financial commitments-for exam- ple, aging parents who may need financial support or children from a previous marriage? Once you're married, will you invest separately? Who will pay for what? Will you have one or two checking accounts? Do you or your partner need life insurance, and if so how much? How about health insurance? What do your employee benefits include?
